I am currently running the 7.9RC3 though I have not gone LIVE to the public it seems to function fine
throughout all my beta test with real paypal, etc.
Other than the email forwarding to the merchant upon a sale ( I thought I read that would be coded in the core in the 8.0 version.
Is it worth upgrading to the newer RC6. Or do you recommend keeping with the property functioning RC3.
I hestitate to do the upgrade because I am a newbie and I don't want to screw things up that are already working.

Well the main noticeable thing is the new Paypal module that finally works properly. I did release it as a contrib for older versions here:

But YMMV.
Aside from that there have actually been a lot of rewrites for url handling, compatibility, upgrade processing, and another big thing is the addition of hte gethtml function which will properly encode the html entities. Most newer contribs will use this function and you will get an error like Unknown Funcion gethtml.
I would recommend waiting for 0.7.9 final and upgrading then.
