I hate to complain, but...

Is there any way that we can set a preference in this forum to view only posts in a particular language? To be honest, I'm getting a little tired of clicking "View Unread Posts" and having to wade through 3+ pages of topics with at least half of them being in a language that I can't read. And to make matters worse, there are some topic titles that are in English but when you click them, the posts themselves are in another language.

Now before anyone reads anything into my comments, this is not an "English only" rant. I'm sure there are plenty of non-English speaking people who are tired of having to wade through a bunch of English topics. We need a way for everyone to be able to select their language of choice when it comes to features like "View Unread Posts".

There was a thread about switching forum software, but that seems to have died on the vine. If phpBB can't handle this, are there other forum scripts that would allow us to select a language?

Marc

I agree it is a pain. There needs to be a way to filter the forums you see on a per-user basis. default phpbb doesn't have this but I'll look for a mod.

Thanks, Q.

Hey, not to open a can of worms here, but you may want to look into the newpost2mail mod, also. It sends the content of new posts in the Topic Reply Notification e-mails that phpBB sends out if you have subscribed to a topic.

With this mod, you don't have to log into the forum only to find that someone has posted spam, or something less annoying, to your subscribed topic. I've used it on my forum for the past year. Very handy!

yea I can't believe that isn't a phpbb core option by now. I think all other forums have that as an option by default. I used to like that but then it got annoying when I would read the info in the email. then later goto the site and it still has those marked as "new" so we have to end up reading everything twice anyway and your email gets fuller faster. Would be fine if it was configurable at the user level

I know that you can configure who gets the emails — either individually or by groups — so if you didn't want to receive those messages, you wouldn't have to.

An alternative would be to unsubscribe from that topic if you didn't want to be notified. It seems to me, though, that the benefits would outweigh the drawbacks. Personally, I'd love to read the message in the emails. I mean, we get the emails anyway — why not have the message in there, too?

Just my 2¢.

You could try using Google Translate to navigate your way around, e.g. view the forum in Spanish:

Why not do like Presta and others and set up a different section / forum for each popular language.

there are different sections for different languages, but It doesn't help those of us who visit the forum regularly and just do everything through new posts.

Just wanted to follow up and see if there was any progress on implementing this idea.

Why not just do as I suggested and add Google Translate links to the header and/or footer?

I found a mod for you, Q, that should handle this request:

Let me know what you think.

Here's the solution I came up with:

http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... 242#p82197

Just bookmark that URL and you can see all the English-only forums when you click on it.

Thanks, Jonathan! That's a nice workaround. It'll do for now, but I still think we need to add a mod to this board to make it automatic. The mod I found should make it easy to implement.

That allows you to join groups.. but groups don't have the ability to filter by topic
