Is it possible to get images filed separately in folder? After I uploaded my item images and resulted a long list. I found a hard time to look for the correct picture from the list and have attached to product data, as well as additional image.
Thanks in advance!!
Thanks in advance!!
I had the same problem as well but alas, image folders is not a feature of Open Cart at the moment
To get around the problem of getting lost in a long list, I name my images with category name first
eg for blue balls, I'd call it balls_blue_large.jpg. So all the balls are listed together and I can find it by typing "b" in the image list which jumps me to all the "b"s
Another option is to have a duplicate copy of the image in a subfolder. Open Cart will allow "selecting" in a subfolder but you'd still have to have a copy of the pic in the main image folder for dislpaying the pic.

images is open carts biggest downfall currently from what I see. Hope it gets updated - large catalogs are nearly impossible.
To make it simpler to find, try naming the image the same as your product.
If you have multiple images, use product1A, product1B, product1C.
With all the image files now sorted, it's pretty easy to find.

So what would be the preferred method:
Idea 1:
Image upload would have
a dropdown of subfolders inside the image folder. You choose the folder first, or create one if it doesn't exist. Then browse to the image. Click save and it will upload to that subfolder.
Then under the Product section you have 2 drop downs..
first select the subfolder
Then the second dropdown auto-populates with the images in that folder only making it easier to sift through
Idea 2:
In the image area, create "directories". Then, similar to the way Product Options work, you click the little yellow folder icon to the left and upload images there.
The product section from idea 1 would be the same
Idea 3:
I personally dislike the current image uploader because it only lets you do 1 image at a time.
I'd like to see a dynamic add button like the product discount tab has where you can add multiple browse boxes and save them all at once.
Idea 4: Junk all browse boxes and include a filemanager that allows mass ftp uploading. This would break the ability to have image titles tho... have to think on that one. Maybe after upload the image title will just use the filename, unless you edit the list to add a title.

The use of directories and folders here may get confusing, so I want to clear some things up.
Firstly, creating directories/folders on a filesystem in addition to the ones that already exist may not be permitted in some environments, ruling this option out.
With this in mind, it would mean that filenames of the images must be unique, otherwise there will be conflicts.
If you're talking about database directories/folders, then instantly you're faced with the issue that you can't have the same filename, even if they appear to be in different "folders".
Paths would lead to confusion too.
So we need to perhaps examine other ways of organising images, perhaps how wordpress and flickr do it. You'll notice that they use "tags", very "hip and trendy", but it seems to work.
With regards to multiple uploads, try this: http://forum.opencart.com/index.php/top ... 12812.html

It seems a big challenge to getting images' organization set up....
By way, Qphoria you mentioned product page. Now the search box is valid for product name. It would be very nice to have it valid for Model search as well....that will reduce time by looking up the id of model, instead product name.
Any ideas??

I dont think the model search has anything to do with the topic, but yea that was requested by another poster in this thread and I said I would add it in the next RC version
I think hm2k is right on the money with all of this.hm2k wrote: The use of directories and folders here may get confusing, so I want to clear some things up.

The way forward with image organisation is either via "tags" which is a flat organisation method ( 1 level, no hierarchies) or by introducing a hierarchy of "folders" that really only exist as an organisation concept in the database and which would probably match the product category hierarchy.
