I have just released in beta an advanced search module. This module integrates OpenCart with the PHP port of Java Lucene - Zend_Search_Lucene.

The integration is fairly basic, just replacing the existing search with the Lucene equivalent. But this is a mammoth improvement anyway, since Lucene orders based on relevance (OpenCart default sort is product_id), Lucene is index based meaning less DB queries, Lucene allows regex matches and Lucene is easily extended. If you were to extend this module, you'd also have an array of Lucene inbuilt features such as keyword hilighting.

As is, a vast improvement on the default search.

A demo would be nice ;)

Or even better, a site where it is possible to compare the 2.

A demo I can do, http://demo.justin.net.nz

This is slightly more advanced than the current release, I've been trying out some normalization - stemming and stopwords.

Would be glad for some feedback about particular experiences with search terms you try on the demo.

Thanks
