I sell Safes which are heavy and each sale requires a custom price on freight. Sending an 600kg item price varies from address to address. Need tailgate loader or customer has forklift.
How might I handle this during a sale?
Can I prevent sale if not being picked up
If freight is needed can I add freight manually some way.

Sorry for ambling but typeing as I think

Maybe I mark the items for free pickup from store and customers will/might enquire re: frieght.

Any thoughts please.

Both Pick up from store and weight based shipping are in your shipping options.
https://docs.opencart.com/en-gb/extension/shipping/
This is also very useful viewtopic.php?t=108317

For more details work
For free

not free but Recommended

[ note check the table at the bottom of the first recommended link to see which one suits all your requirements ]

Sales are prevented if you do not have shipping options available (ie only pick up from store).
Then they will have to call you for shipping in order to proceed.

As for shipping "variable" you could add as many flat rate shipping versions as you like. This has 10 done for you :
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=30826
You could also have a product called SHIPPING COSTS set for 1AUS and add as many as you need accordingly into the admin order backend.

Thank you for your time mona,
I think I have confused myself. Let me explain:
I have made it so when a sale is paid for it is complete. I have done this because my main business is selling digital products and this makes the item imediatly available for download.
I have the australia post plugin setup which allow for freight of smaller items, The user can calculate this in the checkout page.

Large items I need to check with the local carriers and get custom prices everytime.

So where I am confused is how do I allow digital sales to go straight through, Small physical items auto calc postage but larger items I need to get freight quote myself.

How will OC cope with this, what settings should I set. As digital items are marked as Requires Shipping = NO then I think thats okay that it automatically marks as completed. But other items I'm happy for auto calc postage and pay me now so I don't loose the sale. Although I need notification to send etc.
Then heavy items I don't want them to pay until I get freight price and they agree.

Help.....please

You could make it collection only, and add a little note "call for a delivery quote".

I think that's probably the quickest/easiest way.
