[SOLVED] Uninstall 4.1.0.3 and Install 3.0.4.1 Is it worth it?

Hello,
I installed OC version 4.1.0.3 not knowing any better. I thought installing the "newest version" would be the best thing to do.
I now see, everywhere, that it was the wrong thing to do, and I should be using version 3.0.4.1
So now my question is, how do I uninstall 4.1.0.3 completely from the server and start over with 3.0.4.1?
Will I loose all the work I did on 4.1.0.3, or can I save it somehow, and transfer it to 3.0.4.1? ie. product images and descriptions
My site seems to be working.
I don't like the way some things look, and it's been a task to change things. I spend more time reading how to do (change) stuff because there a not many modules for 4.1.0.3
I have changed some core files over the course of setting the site up, so I probably won't be able to up grade, right?
So will it be worth it to revert to 3.0.4.1 or just keep going with 4.1.0.3?
.........and if I stick with 4.1.0.3, I would like to know how to center the category list on the navbar - stretch them evenly across from one end to the other.
Thanks for your help,
Dan

You could use our Export/Import tool for copying your data over from 4.1.0.3 to 3.0.4.1. The worksheet formats will be slightly different, but nothing major, see our FAQ on how to go about it.

So I would install your tool to 4.1.0.3 and it will export the data from 4.1.0.3 to a spread sheet.
Uninstall 4.1.0.3 from server.
Install 3.0.4.1 to server, and install the tool.
Copy spread sheet from 4.1.0.3 to one for 3.0.4.1 and import.
How would I go about uninstalling 4.1.0.3 ?

I suggest not uninstalling it initially but moving it. Put all your live files and folders in a folder such as /original in case you need them. You can delete that folder once your replacement installation is working as you want it.

Yes thanks johnp great idea, I made a folder then installed 3.0.4.1 in it.
3.0.4.1 is not much different than 4.1.0.3...still has the continue button,
looks like more preinstalled extensions...and what's up with the ads ? OC was telling me to turn off my ad blocker.
I'm going to test it out some more. looks like I will have to mess with the style sheets, I don't know if it's worth it.
Why do they say 4.1.0.3 is not ready for production? I guess for shops that have more going on than I do?

If it's just adding products then Jeff's Export/Import tool is probably the way to go here.

Hi Paul
I don't know, because I just started opencart in March, and still working on it, but 3.0.4.1 seems to be pretty much the same as 4.1.0.3
The back end is a little different (more things to choose) and the files are in a different place, there are more css files to deal with ( I had a hard time finding them) but it pretty much looks the same as 4.1.03 when I started.
I think my site, which is small works ok, or seems to. I got rid of some of the annoying stuff such as not refreshing the shopping cart immediately
and other things by asking you guys for help, which I am grateful. I fixed one thing the other day in which when the customer forgot password
the message they would get when they sent their email to me was "text_success". The actual code in the php was "text_sent" and it had a nice message
telling the customer that his email had been sent successfully. The actual problem was in catalog/controller/account/forgotten.php line 81 and it had ((text_success)). I changed "success" to "sent" and it worked. How long did I spend looking at this problem? Oh about half a day, maybe longer.

Opencart was supposed to be easy for a guy like me, a mechanic. The average person can't possibly set up a simple website, with a cart, on his own.
Does the guy who writes this extremely difficult code (to me it looks difficult) actually go check and see if it works?

I know just enough html and css to get me into trouble.
I thank all of you who are on these forums helping people. If it weren't for you nobody would use opencart.
I think I'll stick with 4.1.0.3 after all I don't want to spend another 4 months working on a different version.

I want to thank Jeff also, the import/export tool works and is easy to use.

Somebody tell me how to put SOLVED on this page, can't seem to figure that out.......

I would like to spread out my categories across the navbar, evenly spaced, from one end to the other....or do I need to start a new topic.

Thanks everyone,
Dan
