Honesty shop, self service checkout?

Evening all.

I'm wondering if OpenCart is the best option for my situation here?

I run a farm shop with an honesty payment system.
Customers currently write their purchases in a notebook, then enter their total into a card reader.

I'd like to build a self service type checkout.
Around 30 products, I'd like the option for customers to pay by card on a card machine or by cash.
I also need the customer facing screen to be able to be locked so customers can't access anything else besides the checkout screen.

Is this all possible? Is OpenCart the best option for this scenario or should I be looking at something else?

Thankyou.

Short answer.
OpenCart is not the best fit out of the box.

1-OpenCart is designed for online stores, not in-person self-service checkouts.
2-It lacks built-in kiosk mode or POS features; you’d need custom modules or plugins.
3-Locking it down to just the checkout screen would require system-level restrictions outside of OpenCart (e.g., kiosk browser, OS lockdown).

You’re much better off using a POS system with kiosk mode, like Square, Zettle, or an open-source POS like Floreant or Odoo.
if you need any of the open source POS , i can offer my services to install for you.

OpenCart can work, but it might be more than you need for just a small, self-service checkout. It’s more focused on full online stores.

I would also agree Opencart is probably not the best solution. There are plenty of point of sale systems that would be more suited to the job.
