Hi everyone,
I currently run an anime desk mat store https://www.animedeskmat.com/hosted on Shopify. However, I've recently hit the storage limits on my plan and would need to upgrade to a more expensive package. To manage costs more effectively, I'm considering switching to OpenCart, which seems to offer advantages in terms of lower costs.
My main concerns are:
Migration Process: Is it relatively straightforward to migrate all the data (products, customers, orders, etc.) from Shopify to OpenCart? I want to ensure the migration is smooth and that no critical data will be lost in the process.
Performance: My store has around 100K products. Does OpenCart handle large catalogs efficiently? Are there any specific performance issues or limitations I should be aware of with this volume of products?
I’d really appreciate any insights, especially from anyone who has made a similar switch or is running a large store on OpenCart.
Hi there. Not sure if you have come right on this yet.
I have successfully converted Shopify to ECWID and Opencart, BUT, not with a 100k products.
My suggestion is that you look at CS-Cart, a migration extension in Opencart marketplace. They seem to be able to convert from anything to anything.
If you are tech savvy you can look at Postman, it'll do the same thing, but you need to know what you're doing when you extract the data.
The main problem is the performance for the number of products. I think you should choose a hosting company like A2hosting, which is familiar with Opencart, and ask their support department what they suggest. I believe they will tell you to rent your own VPS which will give you the speed you need. That will be your monthly overhead then instead of Shopify, so you need to decide if that's what you can afford.
The positive is that, with Opencart, you are in control. You decide which pay gates you want to use, which countries you want to deal with and which couriers you want to use. You'll probably need to buy a few extensions to give you everything you need, but, that's usually a once-off.
I hope that helps.
