I know that this has been discussed before. I have searched and read some of the posts, but not found what I am looking for

I have several times tried to update v. 2102 to 2302, but every time I get an empty screen and error 500. I followed the instructions, but I did not succeed.

I make a copy of my oc 2102 shop in cPanel in folder /shop2302/. I also make a copy in phpmyadmin of the db connected to the shop. Then I overwrite files with the upload folder from the file "2.3.0.2-compiled.zip" file delivered from OC. I have edited the 2 config.php files correctly to match. I have attached the DB user to the DB in cPanel 'Manage Databases'

I have switched between php version 7.1 and 7.3 and 7.4

My shop with 2102 has worked perfect many years, maybe 10 years. I want a feature (image tags on stock values) and this extension needs oc 2302 and I have heard, that 2302 is a bit better than 2102.

You need to look in your PHP/server error logs for the cause of the 500 error.

500 errors will be listed in your server log. You will have to work through them and they will be due to the method you used to upgrade. Tables incorrect, filing structure incorrect, modifications unsuitable for that version. Obviously each version is different.

php7.4 is outdated and you should be considering php8

Condor has created an OC2 version for php8 (Note not all extensions will work on php 8 )
https://github.com/condor2/Opencart_23xx

We do not recommend OC4 for production but OC3.0.3.4 can be found
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... ad/history

After those disclaimers - please find a couple of posts this month re upgrading Opencart

Mona thank U I will look at Ur links.

Not relevant in this section of the forum:
I also have made a fresh installation of 3040 and spent many hours and money installing extensions, but I have 2 major problems. I have contacted the developers for help. One of them does NOT want to help me, even for money ! The other one can not help, because his extensions does not work the way I want - It is about filters and the condition AND, and I have tried diff. extra extensions. They do NOT work. Maybe I have to buy MegaFilter for 65 USD, but I really only need filters to work with AND. I talk about normal filters in a category, default in OC, NOT attributes etc.

In some ways I like 3040 better than 2102. It is smoother to work with, BUT apparently slower in front end. I have a small delay at every click with 3040. I have NO delay with 2102. My webhost is in Amsterdam, close to Denmark. Apparently 3040 has a more flexible DB structure, meaning also more clicks to get to the item, U want to work with.

This is for your new install of 3.0.3.4? If so I have two comments...
You path includes "shop2302" makes me think you might have a config file setting wrong. Guessing at your logic you'd install 3.0.3.4 in a directory called shop3034. IF that is your logic AND that is where you made the attempt to install 3.0.3.4 then check your paths in the config files.

Otherwise the error is pretty clear... it can't find startup.php in the path: /home/knowware/rentpostevand.dk/shop2302/system/

Does that file exist there?
