If they insist to use Journal

My friend needed a webshop, so installed Opencart for him.
Later he called me, suddenly his shop was very slow.
His bounce rate was much higher and his rankings were down.
I asked him what he changed.
He bought a theme he told, called Journal.

He thought the looks were perfect.
I told him that customers don't need looks, but a fast mobile friendly shop.

I explained him that this theme was already bad in OC 2 and that it became worse in OC3
Now he wants me to put his shop back to the default theme.
But what is easy with a lot of themes, isn't the fact with this monster.

In System Settings the default theme disappeared .
There's no option to go back to default.

Is there a way to get rid of this , by installing the default theme again?

Installation is OC3.0.3.9

It's not just the theme. There's a lot more to it. Try uploading a fresh version of the default theme. Switch back to that then fully disable Journal. Upload a fresh OC file system and see what happens.

I have journal with a bunch of extensions and modifications and my site speed and stats is nearly as fast as the bare default OC. The fact that you can't switch back to the default OC is proof that way more happened than simply installing Journal to cause all the other issues.

Well, the main Problem with Journal is most likely the fact, that most People, coming here, to get Support, did not legally aquire a Journal Extension, but use a 'stolen' Copy, downloaded somewhere at the Web. It's therefore a logical Fact, that such Figures should not receive any Support around here, because they don't deserve it. That's my personal opinion on this, like it or not ...

A simple answer is to restore from a backup if available. If not, the harder route would be to rebuild the shop.
