I have the unenviable job of setting an identical discount for 2000 items on a site.

The site has 3000+ products so applying the discount globally is not an option as this discount is not for the other 1000 products.

The discount is exactly the same though for each of the 2000 products: Buy 5 or more of same product for 10% discount. I have installed a mod I found in the extension area here to allow me to state discount as % rather than fixed amount.

Is there a fast way that I can apply this discount to all these products rather than trawelling through each product.

I have bought Q's discount by category extension in the hope of helping me speed up my task and whilst very good it does not allow me to force the discount per product within a category - nor does it suggest that I could do that - but I hoped I could use it as these 2000 products are split nicely into 10 categories.

Anyhoo, anybody got any ideas?

If I had a list of the items....I would consider investigating using a mysql statement to set the discounts.

Possibly someone can help with the mysql statement.

I've done very similar job but only about 400 products for my friend site, each product has three discount options (buy 3 6 10, -3% -6% -10% respectively). Having considered modifying codes or database. I choose the later. Here what I done.
- Exported product_discount table from database to SQL
- Generate SQL statements in Excel
- Copy to SQL file
- Imported back to database
It took abount 1hr to do the job.
Hope that helps.
