I have a flat shipping fee for everyone as i can only ship to the uk. I have a deal with royal mail that, as long as my parcels average under 1kg (which they always have) i have a set fee i pay them. so i can do a flat fee on my website.
So the questions is, how do i get that to show up right from the start in the cart?
View cart just shows Subtotal and total, that is misleading as the total is not the total until the shipping goes on. My other websites (hand coded with bootstrap and Mals E-commerce) show the total straight away, this is my first go at a database website, mainly just to see if it would work if Mals every fell over.
I had a problem with the prices showing the price and the same price as Ex Tax: so i had to switch that to not display prices with tax which has removed the Ex Tax: The only other thing i have set up is channel islands get vat free but i can turn that if if it messes with the postage - they also pay the same postage as they are in the UK for royal mail.
As i said, not done anything like this before so please be gentle :-)

Maybe you can consider ClearThinking's Automatic Shipping extension: https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... on_id=6049cassie75 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 4:15 pmI did a lot of searches but it kept saying i had to many words or they were too common :-(

Check out our ever-growing list of extensions for OpenCart here.
Some useful extensions for a better admin experience: Image File Manager Pro • Drag & Drop Sort Order
Reach out to us at hello@softmonke.com for your OpenCart web development needs or feedback for our extensions.
Always nice to hear of one of our extensions being used in the wild!
Anyway, as above one of the Clear Thinking shipping extensions would probably be perfect here and they're worth every penny: https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... 20Thinking

Thanks for the callouts from both of you. softmonke is correct, Automatic Shipping is designed for this. It will automatically apply the lowest shipping cost to the cart before shipping can be chosen.
The shipping rate options will still show up in the checkout, so if you want to hide and skip that step, I also have an extension called Hide Checkout Steps that does that. That will only work if you're using the default OpenCart checkout, so if you're using a quick checkout then you'd have to see if it has its own feature to hide the shipping area of checkout.
Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any questions.

Thank you for the quick reply and the options for an extension.
Unfortunately i have no budget as this is a test to see if we can use opencart for our websites if our current shopping cart provider ever fails. As it is just a test/backup we can't spend anything on it. If the cart needs so much extra paid stuff to make it do the basics it is probably not the cart for us. I had assumed it was a setting i had not set correctly :-(
We are a very small family run business that is running down to retirement but, as i said, i like to have a backup for emergencies :-)

No worries, I understand being on a tight budget.
The only way to accomplish this in a default OpenCart installation would be to turn "Requires Shipping" off for every product, and then use the Handling extension (in Extensions > Order Totals) to apply the shipping cost. You'd have to rename it on the front-end, but Order Totals automatically apply their cost, so it would show up without the customer needing to choose anything.
The downside of this approach is that the customer could not set a different billing and shipping address, and you couldn't offer multiple shipping options if you ever wanted to do that in the future. It might be a workable solution for your situation, though.

just noticed i had "estimate shipping " switched off, when i switched that on i got that up early on in the checkout process which is better than later. But vat is included in the price but the field is called "Estimate shipping & taxes" which is confusing.
I guess the next question is, how to make the title just say "shipping"? i assume that would be in the css somewhere so a search of local files may find that, i am downloading them now.
However this may be useful for channel island customers as they are vat 0% but that only kicks in when they login, we don't want to force registration. if you choose jersey for the region in the above section it doesn't take the vat off.
just re-read what i have put and it is a bit rambling, so hope someone can work out what i mean :-)
