Can someone reply from mods and tell me what id did wrong please, this is worrying me.
The post was about a new install of 3.0.3.9 because i read on this forum that the newer ones were not stable. i had tried via my hosters app installer but that failed and they suggested i do a manual install. I uploaded it all, following the instructions on https://docs.opencart.com/en-gb/installation/
I went to where it was uploaded https://www.SITE.co.uk/shop (not sure if urls to actual sites are allowed) and it had the first page of the install stuff like on the instructions. I read it all and clicked continue but then all i got was a blank page.
I gave up for a while and put the post on here after having a good search for anyone else who had it. When i went back later even https://www.SITE.co.uk/shop was blank.
My hoster is supposed to be looking at it but any thoughts on here would be great, assuming this post doesn't disappear :-(
Who are you hosting with? If you can't easily install opencart I'm not sure they are worth using.

If all server requirements are met - which can be checked at the step2 of the installer script.
But you get a blank site then ..
I would assume, that there is something wrong (not installed or defined) on your server.
It would help us here massive if you could post
1. which provider/hoster
2. what type of server (Linux or Windows)
3. server settings OpenCart needs > e.g. php-version, etc.

Sorry forgot above:ADD Creative wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 8:59 pmThe blank page is probably due to some error. You need to find and look in your server and PHP error logs.
4. check your server log file - a blank page is mostly because of an php error (or an missing library there) - there you will what's the issue.

The hoster is SiteGround
Server, sorry no idea.
I downloaded all the files from the opencart website for 3.0.3.9
The app installer on SiteGround is downloading a 4+ site but not the most up to date one i think, but as i deleted that one and uploaded the 3+ one not sure that is relevant.
Logs? Sorry, where would they be. difficult to remember all the other questions because i can't see your answers now i am answering, bit odd that, normally you can on a forum. Probably something i did wrong :-(
will feedback when they do.
When you write "3+" and "4+" are you talking version numbers? i.e. Version 3.0.3.9? If so don't blindly follow your hoster. Most people will still say to use the 3.0.3.9 version versus going to 4.

If you really want to become a working webshop, I highly recommend one of the developers from here.
Hosting companies knowing what they do, when it comes to webshops are extremely rare!
And if they have already troubles with their installer, I would not trust them anymore.

the version they have put in my /shop/ folder is 4.0.2.2 which i told them i did not want.
They also have created a subdomain called shop but there is no open cart in there just logs and webstat folders.
There are also 2 folders in the root of the domain called opencart_old.
I have asked them what is going on but nothing yet.
I will feedback again when they have.
As to paying someone to do it, all the reviews i saw said it was easy to do so why would i pay someone, especially as it is a test to see if it could replace the basket we already have from MalsEcommerce. I just wanted to make sure i had another option ready to go incase Mals ever fell over or got too expensive. We already have 3 webshops with them and don't like having all our eggs in one basket.
It is very easy to install and never had a problem, I would suggest giving consideration to your webhost and whether you should continue to use them.

They have been brilliant up to now and have done a lot of work to get my sites up and running when i joined last September. I can't face having to move again, unless their price goes up to high of course.
Did they say why? The problem I have with most webhost support is you get different answers depending on which person you get,
Also if your webhost supports 4.0.2.2 then 3.0.3.9 will work too.

The hoster is stupid. Don't use shitty installer apps to install Opencart.
Download 3.0.x.x (aka 3.0.4.0), upload, then install manually.

So additional question, if i rename the folder they used /shop/ (and i want to use for the 3.0.3.9 install) will that break the instillation they did and, if it does, how to i amend the instillation to change it to a new folder such as /zshop/ ?
If you haven't developed the site it's may be best to just start afresh with a manual install or installs.cassie75 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 5:52 pmSo the hoster has installed the 4.0.2.2 via their app installer, but they also did all the rest of the setup which was not the point. I needed to do that so i could do it again for the next 2 sites.
