I have a few shops running older versions of Opencart (1.5.5.1 and 2.3.0.2), it's time to upgrade a little.

What version should I upgrade to, that is the most stable? I instinctively looked into the most recent (OC4) but learned after a little reading it's not stable yet.

I want to do a fresh install with one store and upgrade the others.

Well, this could most likely be the best solution for you:
define('VERSION', '3.2.0.0');

The most stable one is the upcoming OpenCart 3.0.4.0, which is based on 3.0.3.9, with some further bugfixes and security patches. Most of the extensions for 3.0.3.8 will also work for 3.0.4.0.

Yes, correct. OC v3.2.0.0 also contains the most up-to-date vendors.

Forgive my lack of knowledge here, but what do I do on the github site you guys have linked to?

I get that you're linking to the different versions that you mentioned, but is there a place to download the group of files there? Or do I click on something somewhere on that page to download it? It kind of looks like the files are in the "upload" folder, is that what I'd need?

Never been to github before, have no idea what it is to what to do.

Go to the github page, then click on the green Code button, then you'll see the Clone > HTTPS tab, from where you can download the ZIP-file.

Thank you for your efforts, it looks good, I want to upgrade from v3.0.3.9. But I haven't been ready yet whether to upgrade to v3.2.0.0 or v3.0.4.0.
Are there any database changes in v3.2.0.0 compared to v3.0.3.9?

There are slight database changes in regard to the order recurring orders on OC v3.2.0.0 whereas OC v4.x releases now handles subscriptions over. However, the upgrade will take care of that on anyhow while using decent hosting services with reasonable hosting packages. That shouldn't be an issue.

This is up to Daniel, to do a new tagged release, I asked him several weeks ago to do it for 3.0.4.0

There are no database changes between 3.0.3.9 and 3.0.4.0, and most extensions for 3.0
.3.8 will also work for 3.0.4.0, whereas 3.2.0.0 may require Ocmod-based extensions to be adjusted first.

OC v3.2.0.0 also handles upgrade support between the old recurring payments to the new subscription system prior to upgrade to OC v4.x releases.
