the install for this update fails. on "domain1"

1. I copied the files from upload in the update zip file to the appropriate directories taking into account that my storage directory is in a different location than the default. pointed to correctly in the config.php files.
2. I started running the install (update), but it fails throwing what appears to be a timeout issue but the specifics are not recorded in log files.
3. so i increased the max_execution_time from 30 to 360.

the on screen message reads:

Internal Server Error Internal Server Error
and in a box:
Site temporarily unavailable.
Connection timed out - please try again.

thanks for the help.

an interesting note, I am running 3.0.3.8 on a different domain ("domain2") using php 7.2; but when I first tried to run this install on a 7.2 php, it said I had to use 7.3+. I have upgraded this ("domain1") to php 7.3 to get past that error.

The PHP version is still behind compared to today's OC requirements.

You need to check both the PHP and OpenCart error logs.

Don't use OpenCart's upgrade feature. Do a fresh install of at least OC 3.0.3.9, using PHP 7.4 or 8.x. Then re-install all your relevant extensions and theme. Finally use the Export/Import tool to copy your data over to the new server, see also our FAQ.

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

I would like to ask about the 3020 version on php 7.
I have many extensions for 3020.
Due to numerous bugs, it is not easy to change oc versions.
I looked at the OC on GitHub
https://github.com/opencart/opencart/tree/3.0.x.x/
Can I use the files from this page to work with the extensions I have for 3020? It would be good if someone could explain what to use because I saw that there is also a set of corrections from the webkul team. I need to change the existing 3020 version in which I myself made some changes to stay close to that version because otherwise many extensions will not work as well as my corrections which are not enough compared to the other corrections included on GitHub. I hope that it is understandable and that I will get a quality answer. Thank you

That will be down to the individual extensions. Some my work without issue others may not. You would need to test them yourself or ask the extension developer if they are compatible.

That's understandable. But do you know how much developers of certain extensions and themes ask for re-support after 1 or 2 years after first buy? They ask for so much money that it is not normal. I literally have to pay for the theme and modules again as if I was buying for the first time in order for them to provide written support and take me off the agenda. And honestly, what I need to do and check, I need two more lives. I don't think anyone seriously realizes how much work it is to do everything from the beginning and how much it costs, and the versions are so often that it can't be achieved just like that. I don't want to be mean, but some programmers behave like scumbags and would take a man's goat off their back for small jobs, not to mention complex undertakings.

Yes, it is a problem upgrading an OpenCart store if you have a lot of extensions. Not only do they have to be compatible with that version of OpenCart they also have to be compatible with the version of PHP you are using. The possibility of having to purchase them again would be expensive. While the majority should just work there is always the chance that something won't. It is always best to make a copy of your site the test everything first.

Yes. Not to mention the php versions. In any case, there is a lot of work to be done, and luckily I have learned something over the years so I can solve it myself. I'm going to continue working, thanks for the conversation.
