I'd like to upgrade my Opencart to the latest version. I'm currently using v1.5.6.
The theme/template I am using is D_BLACK_SHADOw_1.4.7
Additional installed extensions include:
1) vqmodmanagerv2.0.1oc1.5.x
2) SEO PACK PRO v.9.42
Will I lose any data by installing v 4.0.1.1 and overwriting v 1.5/6 directly through my webshost?
What sort of problems might I expect to encounter?
Thank you!
Quite a good Idea ..
Yes.
IF you really want to update, then NOT with the current 4.x version!
Too buggy.
Better to use the 3.0 Maintainance Branch from Github (because the only php 8.x compatible):
https://github.com/opencart/opencart/tr ... aintenance
Or you wait until the new 4.x version is ready AND fully tested.
Too many to describe them all here if you do not install the new version in an extra folder on the same server and deploy slowly there your new version.

While I recommend the 3.0.x.x_Maintenance branch as well, these other versions are PHP 8.0 and 8.1 compatible, too:OSWorX wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 7:03 pmBetter to use the 3.0 Maintainance Branch from Github (because the only php 8.x compatible):

Opencart-3 repository (still subject to many changes)
OpenCart 4.0.1.1 (still has some bugs though)
OpenCart master branch (still work in progress with regards to bugfixes)
However, the 3.0.x.x_Maintenance branch currently is the only one that also supports the recently released PHP 8.2. Daniel is currently implementing changes to make the master branch PHP 8.2 compatible in the next few days, and the same is true for Opencart-3.
