Downloadable Files from a Purchase

I'm a little confused on this one.  In poking around a little....

Can you have different downloadable files available for differnet product purchases.\

File #1  for Product Purchase #1

File #2  for Product Purchase #2

or do the files for downloading show up on all product pages if the downloand feature is setup.

I'm not seeing the file show up anywhere on the actual cart at checkout. ... ?
