Currency Won't Update to U.S. Dollars

Hopefully this is a quick fix.
I have created a custom theme and everything works perfectly when on my localhost, however, when I uploaded everything to the server, the currency stays as "£" when I need to have it as US. Dollars "$". I've made the necessary changes while logged in as the admin, and I see the changes on the Dashboard page, but nothing changes on the frontend.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction of where to make this fix!?
It's quite urgent as my client can't sell products with the "£" as its currency! Thanks so much!
