Hi - No, you don't have to copy files manually to their respective location.
In a mod folder, there is usually an admin and catalog folder: and within those, there will be subfolders, with the files for the mod. You are meant to upload the mod admin and catalog folders on top of your OC admin and catalog folders.
However, you must check the readme file included with the mod for full instructions. Some overwrite core files: so if you have several mods, you might need to manually merge the mods into the core files. Some also need minor alterations to other files.
Take a full backup before uploading a mod (or you'll kick yourself later

hello
Thankyou very much
example : Like I am working with testimonial mod
and following is the installation procedure
here it says copy the files from your upload directory to your target installation directory
what is my target installation directory
this package came with a folder 'upload' with all basic files in it and one .sql file
now I created one folder testimonial and copied all files in it on my server
path is public_html/testimonials
I also checked for permissions in admin/user/groups
Thankyou very much

and following is the installation procedure
Code: Select all
Installation
============
1)
You may want to do a backup copy of the following files because these will be overwritten:
admin/controller/common/header.php
admin/language/english/common/header.php
admin/view/template/common/header.tpl
2)
You may want to do a backup and drop the following tables in the database (if you have) because these will be used by this module:
testimonial
testimonial_description
3)
Copy the files from the 'upload' directory to your target installation directory
of OpenCart.
4)
Import the opencart.sql file from the 'upload' directory to your database of OpenCart.
5)
After installation, the following files are now newly added:
what is my target installation directory
this package came with a folder 'upload' with all basic files in it and one .sql file
now I created one folder testimonial and copied all files in it on my server
path is public_html/testimonials

OK, well the 'target installation directory' means the directory where opencart is installed, on your server.dashopinstyle wrote:......

So if your shop is in the root folder at http://www.yoursite.com , this is where the contents of the upload file should go.
If your shop is in a subdirectory, http://www.yoursite.com/shop, the mod folders should be uploaded there.
To illustrate: if you drill down through the folders in this Tag cloud module for example, you will find the admin and catalog folders for the mod at this location:
TagCloud-1.4.9/TagCloud-1.4.9x/upload/admin
TagCloud-1.4.9/TagCloud-1.4.9x/upload/catalog These 2 folders can be uploaded directly over your opencart installation folders on the server, at the location illustrated below: In this case, the readme says 'nothing is overwritten'. You can check this by going through the mod folders if you wish.
I hope that is a bit clearer. I know some ecommerce/CMS systems have a special folder for mods, but Opencart is not like that - and creating your own folder for mods won't work.
hi thanks,
admin folder actually exists earlier so nothing is over written
only those (extra) files are copied in the respective directories
and If my admin folder has a different name then i have to rename it in source folder
If its that then it was so simple
I was scared to copy it in root because folders with same name exists catalog in my case and I didnt wanted to spoil my game. thanks a million ton...

Lots of people feel nervous about 'overwriting' the entire admin folder contents, etc, but that's not what happens.
Glad I could help,
