Hi all,

Trying out Opencart for the first time. I'm going through a basic configuration and I don't see the Paypal Payments Standard extension available in the list to install. I have the Paypal Commerce one, but that's it. There should be Standard, Express, etc. I don't even see them in the Marketplace. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,
CJ

Except Paypal Commerce all other are removed since OpenCart 3.0.3.3 and not available anymore with the default package.

I don't get this. How can a shopping cart not have payment and shipping modules built in?
What I read on that link is you can download the core cart software but if you need anything other than paypal, and you need to ship a product, you have to pay for an extension? Am I reading this correctly?

No, you don't need to pay for one, you just need to download the ones you want. They're all still available for free, they're just not built into the core download package.

However, I don't see them in the marketplace --- I haven't tested 3.0.3.4 yet so does anyone know how the extensions are downloaded? Are there options within the Extensions > Payments area, or do you need to search the marketplace to find them?

Well ... that's exactly the question.
Extensions are removed from the core package WITHOUT any offer to download them for FREE (as they should !) from the Marketplace!
Now people are installing the latest "official" release .. and wondering where are those extensions!

Another reason to answer many useless postings here (sorry folks, not your fault!).

Well, that's not true. I have 46 payment modules available in the Extensions tab. Also the link you provided doesn't show Paypal as being one of the ones removed.

This is pretty disturbing that mainstream payment and shipping modules are being removed. I've been looking to leave OSCommerce for years and saw so many good reviews about OpenCart, but seems like my search needs to continue :(

Okay, believe whatver you want.
Fact is, since 3.0.3.3 only 4 payment options are included:

1. PayPal Commerce
2. Bank Transfer
3. COD
4. Free Checkout

If you have more, then you have made an update or using an earlier version.

The intention behind this new strategy is, to avoid the work on "3PD" libraries, e.g. like PayPal and others.
Makes partly sense, because how many of all of you have used the former 54 payment options ? ? ? !
Maybe PP, Klarna and Amazon - that's it.

So, the decision of the Owner and Chief developer of OpenCart makes finally sense.
Who want to waste time on not used extensions?
And all of them should be available sooner or later in the Marketplace.

And if not, those companies (Payment & Shipping Providers) could always offer their own OpenCart Extensions - but as I know, they have almost not the knowledge or/and do not want to spend some own money in such a development!
But until today, they had only the profit of all these extensions.

In the meantime everyone can use either OpenCart 3.0.2.x oder the latest release and install those needed payment and shipping extensions from the earlier release.

If the knowledge is not existing, he/she/it/somewhat else can hire an developer or post a request in the commercial section of this forum: viewforum.php?f=88

Well, I guess you use all 54 payment options.
And use all 13 shipping options.

Not .. why you are asking then?
Okay, simply tell us which exactly you need.

Btw: leaving OSCommerce is the best option of all.
Did not know that somebody these days is still using that old and unsecure solution.

I hate to disagree, especially being new here. BUT, I downloaded OpenCart for the first time ever on Tuesday and installed it. The screenshot attached shows that I have significantly more than 4 payment extensions installed. I did not download anything additional. This was the base installation downloaded directly from this site.

I would want to update for the same reason most people update open source software - to insure they have the latest bug fixes and security updates; to stay compatible with other software, etc. Also, when you ask for support in forums most folks encourage you to be working from the current release before trying to troubleshoot issues.

No, I didn't say I use all of the options. I did specifically mention Paypal Standard and Paypal Express. And I referred to the decision to remove mainstream, i.e.., popular extensions as being disappointing.

You may bash OSCommerce all you like but it was pretty good in it's day, looked like crap but solid.
At least their developers knew how the internet works which I cannot say for the Opencart developers.

Okay, you are correct - sorry.

In OpenCart 3.0.3.3 there are 78 payment options integrated.
For PayPal there is instead having several only one left. Plus the PayPal Smart Button (as Module).
Shipping modules are the same as before.

Because 3.0.3.3 was published on the 1st May 2020, the anouncement here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=217596
is NOT Correct.

Have not tested it, but copying the "missing" files from 3.0.3.2 to 3.0.3.3 should be enough.
While to say, no need to use 3.0.3.3 because 3.0.3.2 is basically the same.

What is true (but released as "pre-release" after a short public release at GitHub), that 3.0.3.4 has removed all the announced files.
But there are 2 packages out, one with all files, and one with less files - so some people could have the one package, while others could have the other!

The one 3.0.3.4 so called "pre-release" has only 6 payment and 5 shipping options included.

All in one a "confusing situation" - but long-term OpenCart users will know that ..

Totally agree and looking at the current 3.0.3.4 pre-release, it looks like it going to be the most confusing release so far.

Most of the changes not committed to GitHub.
Two different versions under assets on the GitHub download page.

Considering it's "A PATCH version".
Methods have been renamed, which will affect extensions.
Templates have changed, which will affect themes.

However, security patches (already in the master branch) were rejected as they might affect extensions (they probably won't).

Eben extensions that were only added in 3.0.3.0 are now removed.
While removing most extensions from the core may be a good plan long term. To do it in such a minor release is just going to add to the confusion.

Reported issues that affect the operation of stores still not patched.
Bloated session table
Browser cache control
Duplicate products added at checkout

Despite them removal of some extensions, the zipped download has gone from 15.8 MB to 45.2 MB. There seems to be some left over cache and session files in there, but not that many to make such a difference.

On the plus side there have be quite a few minor bug fixes and it's only a pre-release, so maybe things will improve.
