Empty parentheses before price in options

In opencart 2.1.0.1 I have an issue with options. The option description is followed by a set of empty parentheses.
It is displayed as the option image followed by the description followed by the empty set of parentheses, and--where applicable--the price.

I do have the parent-child module by liveopencart installed.

I could really use some help on this one.

I suspect that the price is supposed to appear within the parentheses.

On examining the problem further, I note that it only occurs in the third and subsequent, child options.
