Sorry for what's probably a dumb post, but I have an old store using OC 1.5.6.2 that I need to shut down temporarily. Before anyone scolds or shames me for asking a dumb question, just shut up and bear with me, I'm getting a divorce, have no time to research, don't care, etc. etc.
I simply want to know how to disable the store so I don't piss off customers trying to buy something while I'm moving and setting up my entire life again.
I set this store up myself years ago, and just let it run, and since I haven't even looked at the back end in a few years, I have no idea where to start.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, hope your year is going better than mine.

You can put your store into maintenance mode.

THANK YOU!!! I toggled that maintenance mode a bunch of times, but did not think to check the store from a different browser.
Would you happen to know a way to customize that maintenance message? Or am I stuck with that? (Either way is fine, just curious).
Thanks again for your help!!!

Yep. As OSWorX says. You edit the language file by downloading it, editing it and reuploading it. Or, you can install a language editor extension that lets you edit it from the site admin area.
