Config changes not saving

I've got a fresh install of OC3.0.2.0 and use the latest journal 2 theme, the install was a softalicious automated install from my webhost. I've used OC before so am familiar with most admin type functions etc.

I'm setting up the store and finding that when i click the save button it doesnt always save the settings, it "looks" like it has but then I go back to do something else and the settings are back to the defaults, this is happening with config type functions concerning currency, store address etc. and also products etc.

I've also found that the image/file manager/uploader is not working an doesnt actually show an up to date list of the files or even folders so I add a product and go looking for the image to find its "not there" despite knowing it is as i can see it through FTP software, the refresh button has no effect.

I believe this is all linked - any ideas on what is causing it?

Why?

The issue is with OC settings primarily so nothing to do with the Journal theme, hence asking here not with the journal developers.

My advice, don't use automated installers such as Softaculous etc, they are prone to cause troubles.
