Is there anyway by which i can determin the order in which the 'featured products' appear in the 'Featured Products' module?

You can change it in the model file:

catalog/model/catalog/product.php

under the getFeaturedProducts() function
change the ORDER BY to another option (p.date_added, p.sort_order, pd.name, etc)
