Adding registration form to checkout

Hello,

I want to amend my opencart installation such that :

1. When a user add items to the shopping cart there should be an option for them to save the items by registering...

2. When they come back next time they should be able to login to their membership / account to see the items they have saved.

There should be a button or a login for at index.php?route=checkout/cart

What module I need to make these changes?

I would appretiate some input from you guys even a hint where to go about finding more information would be helpful.
