Hi everyone

I have an installation of OpenCart which is version 1.5.1.3 and I've been running this for over 5 years now. I've just moved it onto a new server which is running PHP version 5.5/5.6 and it throws up PHP errors on every page (it's not live yet so not an emergency!). I've investigated and it seems this version of OpenCart will only run up to PHP 5.3 - if a more recent version of PHP is installed on the server it just won't work. So my question is, would any fix be possible to get my website working on the new server? Or would the only solution be to upgrade to a more recent version of OpenCart?

I know the obvious answer is to just upgrade the OpenCart version, since 1.5.1.3 is so old now, but this is really not a route I want to go down because we installed so many different modules/plugins on the website and had to heavily customise a lot of them to make them work with one another - it really is quite a complex installation so upgrading the OpenCart version would cause all kinds of bother!

If that's the only option then so be it, I just thought I would ask on here on the off chance anyone knows of a simpler solution.

Thanks for your time

Adam

well, if you plan, to stay with the basic 1.5.x Admin Archidecture, since familiar to you already,
I would recommend, to check here, and update your existing Version to v.1.5.6.4 or 1.5.6.5_rc,
the latest, best, and final (release-Candidate) OC Version 1.5.x
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... ember=Peku

By use of PEKU's Service, you should be able to update extensions as well, where required.
Or then, you could get PEKU's OC-2-themed v.1.5.6.5 OpenCart EDGE, then, your Shop will
look like OC-2, act (responsive) like OC-2, whereby the Admin Setup will stay, as you already
know it. It also includes the exclusive OC-2 OcMod-Extension operating system, making it very
unique. :choke:
I even created once a bunch of OcMod's, up to an Admin OcMod Editor, and it all worked swell !
So, one could decide, to (easy) rewrite (most) existing VqMod's to OcMod's, then, instead of
requiring VqMod with it's VqCache, the xxx.xml File Content is stored in the DB, and the
VqCached Output Files in the System/Extension Section, placed within their own 'default-like-
named' subdirectories. :o

Just to mention it, BECAUSE, if you install the Peku's OC Edge, or the Theme, OcMod will be
installed automatically, and it would make absolutely no sense, to activate another
System-Caching-Routine, even interacting with a DB, for no Reason at all, if one STILL
uses VqMod, also doing the same thing (combining+caching content), just in a rather simple
FLAT_FILE - DB style way, and this, if active, regardless of, if OcMod exists or not...

It would be a plain Overkill, an empty Loop, kind of, leading to nowhere, but wasted time.
But it can be switched off easy, I once published an image, wich you cannot miss, if you search
Google Images for: OcMod_Switch.png

Another very impressive Bootstrap 3 Theme Implementation exists here, it's not an OC.2 Theme
Copy, like the one mentioned above, but uses 'common' master-files, so avoiding to write
common 'Section' Code, like in forms - listview - gridview - specials - bestsellers - latest - e.t.c,
in each and every of those files in charge. This makes it much easier to 'globally' edit
such content, and it then looks everywhere exactly the same - but a little harder, to add some
Functions and Extensions, on the other side. And related 'OC default' Modules will no longer
work, and such Modules/Files should better be removed manually. to avoid a possible later
mixup.

It also comes in 2 Colors, by either use of a stylesheet.css and a stylesheet-dark.css File!

And this nice responsive Theme even comes for free, and also works great, just to mention it,
It's easy to install, and set up, and I extensively tested it for some time, without any complains.
OC Bootstrap - Opencart Bootstrap 3 Theme - Front End

!!! It comes for FREE, despite of the price shown!!

BUT, existing Extensions, doing their Job somewhere on VISIBLE Screens, have usually to
be re-written a little, to match OC-2 Bootstrap-type Theme Content, this is important to know,
and possibly a good reason, to select a capable Partner, able to have it all done in a perfect
way. After all, it's a moneymaker-machine, so, it should be worth to be handled with best care... :D
---
Other than that, v.1.5.6.5 is already PHP-7.x, InnoDB-Engine + MariaDB tested, exept for
the OC Install Routine itself, not finding it's (required) MySqli Function anymore.(yet... ;) )
---
That's about it, and, by nature of things, many more responsive Themes exist, some of them
for free, others built into more or less complicated 'complete' Shop-Installations, and based
on v.1.5.6.4 Code. But since 1.5.6.5 contains several important fixes, I would rather not advise,
to settle with 1.5.6.4 anymore, without getting the 1.5.6.4 to 1.5.6.5 Fixes installed at least by
someone, capable to.

The OC v.1.5.6.5_rc can be found here:

This Site Theme used is based on the dark styled Merkent Design.

My very personal opinion only, good Luck!
