Updating Journal Without Losing Custom Work

Hi

We have had some custom work done on our website which is excellent for what we need. However we now want to update our journal to make use of bug fixes etc. However when we update Journal we lose our custom work. We have had quite a fair amount done across various pages.

Is there a way to preserve this work? If not anybody here willing to do it again / undertake the task of doing what we need?
