Documentation for v1.4.8b

Hello,
I just found out about opencart, so uploaded to my ISP's server and got it running. Now, I need to remove sample products, add my own products, payment methods, new skins, etc.
Is there any documentation on how to accomplish all of this? I am a longtime programmer in java and just about everything else, but am new to PHP.
The documentation on the opencart documenation page looks like little more than an outline. I need some "how-to" information.
This looks like a great application so far.
Thanks in advance.

I am looking for some basics, such as how to remove the sample products and add my own products, etc. Specifically, what files do I need to update to delete the demo products and add my own?

You don't need to delete any files, you need to go to the CATALOG > PRODUCTS in the admin interface and remove them there (selecting them all with the checkboxes next to the and selecting Delete button at the top right). To add a new product, simply click the insert button in the top right, and input all of your information

I logged into the admin interface, and all I see is a Dashboard with an Overview section, Statistics section, and Last 10 Orders. I don't see any links or navigation for CATALOG > PRODUCTS.
What am I missing here?

Stop looking at the pictures. Didn't you see the menu across the top? Move your mouse over the "Catalog" entry in the menu, a drop-down list will appear. Select "Products" from this list.

I didn't see the menu across the top because there is no menu across the top. You can go here to see a screenshot of what I am seeing in my admin interface:

Do you see a menu across the top, other than a link to Home???

Well you SHOULD have one there. It's very odd that you don't tbh

Yeah, kinda makes it hard to add and delete products to the catalog
Has anyone else had this problem with v1.4.8b?
I am dead in the water right now.

Have you got Javascript enabled? When I tried disabling it in Firefox, the entire admin menu disappeared. Just a thought

Yes, JavaScript is enabled. Nice try though

honestly I've never heard of anyone having this problem, and the only thing I can think of that would cause it is disabling javascript or editing the header file to actually remove the menu calls. Or maybe you have a seriously overzealous adblock script running?

...ermm....well I made the admin menu disappear again, by turning up security settings in IE8

But I suppose that gets us back to disabling javascript, effectively.
Does the Opencart Demo work for you?
http://demo.opencart.com/admin/ If so, I wonder if anything comes to light when you use Firebug to compare the demo with your site.

Moggin,
JavaScript is not disabled. The demo runs just fine, in the same browser. I use Firebug a little bit at work. I will have to install it at home here and see if maybe the navigation is there, but not visible for some reason. This sure has me perplexed.
Xsecrets,
I have not modified any files. This is a plain vanilla install. Also, no adblock scripts running (why would an adblock script have any effect on the navigation bar?)
Thanks for the help, guys. If I cannot get this working soon, I will need to abandon OpenCart ... and I think that would be a shame. It looks so great.

well lets say for instance that your adblock script is setup to block *banner* or something like that and the nav menu is called as navbanner.js it would get blocked. This is just an example it's not anything as blatant as that of course, but I was just grasping at straws trying to think of what could stop the navigation from showing up.

Sorry not to be more help...but don't give up, glolar, the answer's gotta be there somewhere
JS is enabled - & we can eliminate the browser anyway, because you can view the demo store.
That leaves us with the Opencart files, the server setup, and - anything else?
Is the shop front fully functional? Just wondering, because sometimes (
very rarely) people have reported that not all files were uploaded, or some were corrupted, particularly the Javascript files. Maybe it's worth reuploading those, or checking they are all there.
Forgive my 'shot in the dark' approach - as an amateur it's how I troubleshoot my own problems...

Moggin,
The shop front is fully functional (albeit slow ... probably my ISPs server). I am re-installing everything right now, using a fresh download, to see if my problem goes away. I will keep you posted.
