It would be very nice if pagination could be included in the admin/categories section! I like to use the manufacturers section as an example since the two are almost identical. But this would help with the speed of which categories could be entered if you have 300 or more. Right now i have over a thousand categories and notice it takes almost a minute to load each time i click "save" on a category since it has to re-load the entire list of categories each time it returns to the main categories page. If it were limited to 20-50 categories per page, then things would load faster.

If it takes almost a minute to load the main categories page each time i click "save" on a new category, then that's a lot of wasted time especially when you have about 2000 more categories to add! I thought that this would help to make things run faster for everyone in the future.

Isn't this already controllable in the System section under the Option tab?

That is the funny thing, in system/option it shows
"* Default Items per Page (Catalog):
Determines how many catalog items are shown per page (products, categories, etc)"

but categories seems to be left out? Mine is set on 16 yet all 1000+ categories load each time and there are no pagination buttons at the bottom of the page. I set it to 20 as a test and no change. So i am a little confused why "Default Items per Page (Catalog)" would include categories but not work.

well if you'll notice there are two settings there. one is (catalog) The front of the site not the admin portion that's the one that says categories. The other one is labled admin and it doesn't list categories it list products/orders etc.

Good point! I wasn't thinkin... 8)
I still think that pagination in the admin/categories section should be implemented!

Is there any reason it shouldn't be? Any downfalls? I can't think of any.

You seem to be missing the overall point. It already has pagination.

Ok i need to make myself clear, cause this is starting to get confusing. In the admin section when you go to catalog then categories to add new categories, there is no pagination. It lists all of the categories on one page.

Please inform me if i have missed a release the implements this feature!
I am currently running 1.4.8.b (i remember upgrading to 1.4.8.b but it says i have just 1.4.8.)

I've got to say, I'm really curious about the kind of store you have that you need so many categories.

I have an Auto Parts Store. I need all the makes + years for "each" of the makes + all of the models for "each" of the makes. Plus different part kinds categories if i want to get picky but i haven't gone that far yet.

So lets say that i have 57 makes, years are from 1980-2010, and an average of 5 models per make per year...
57x30x5=8550

But not all the years are 30, and the models very. But when i'm done, it will be pretty close to that number. I think my math is correct.

Sounds like a job for Product Options or one of the extended Product Option offerings such as Global Mega Options.

Without some sort of matrix, it may be very difficult to naviagate and slow performance.

I noticed that on opencart 1.4.9.4, there is still no pagination in the admin/categories section. Did anyone create a specific module for this ability? Is this idea still in the works?

Hi,

I am trying to implement pagination.
It works somewhat, but the problem is that when I click on a category to edit, under the DATA section , the parent category are not displayed properly thanks to the pagination.

Any idea how to get around this?

Did anyone successfully implemented this feature yet ?
My client has over 20 000 categories!

Just wanted to update this post in the hope that someone can help..

My site currently has 33,000 categories and more will be added. The categories page in admin cannot be used as the page simply crashes and won't load. I've tried to implement pagination myself but with no luck, any help appreciated!

Same problem here, I think 'pagination' category listing should be implemened asap (es. a dropdown option to show specific cat/subcat only), Tnx.
