I have just taken over an opencart 2.2 installation and I am trying to get to grips with everything that is currently there. I am told the installation has been heavily modified but there is only 1 modification showing in the admin panel.
The webspace is a bit of a horror show. I think someone had issues where they didn't know where to upload things so they decided to upload things multiple times to as many places as possible in an attempt to get things to work.
In the /system/ directory there are loads of ocmod.xml files. I tried adding one of these to a fresh install and it adds in and tracks properly but doesn't copy the file to the system directory. Is there a reason all these files would be in this directory and not tracked in the admin panel?
Most of the ocmod files in the system directory also seem to have a counterpart in VQMOD xml directory in the root. I am guessing this all might be the leftovers from a previous version of opencart.
Also the site is having errors coming from files in the system/storage/modification directory. I read the documentation on ocmod and vqmod and as best I understand this is some sort of cache directory for modified files. I created a test site with a duplicate of the live sites files and database and deleted this folder and the errors went away but no new files have been generated in its place so i am wondering if my understanding of this directory is correct.
Can anyone provide me some advice please?
By the sounds of that i would personally start again (if thats possible)
Or now you have made a test site with the exact files of the live site, then compare the files you have with a completely fresh install of the same version to see exactly how much has been changed.
If its only ocmods/vqmods then it might not be so bad but if there are lots of core code changes you could be chasing errors forever.
First thing is on your test site is to completely empty/clear all caches, goto extensions/modifications and click refresh, clear browser cache and then see what errors appear now, as there could be old errors still in the cache
Good luck, sounds like you might need it
