Could someone point me to the code for the related products please?
I have a template that comes with its own related products module but I have no way of removing the opencart ones?

The template should overwrite the default one then since it is pulled in by the template. You might check with the template developer that you are using and see.
Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.
