1.5.5.1 to 2.1.0.1

Hi everybody

Need some help with moving an 1.5.5.1 to 2.1.0.1.
I am thinking of installing the 2.1.0.1 version, get a working theme and wondering how can i then transfer my data to the new install (products, images, customers, orders, sales etc) in order to work normally. What should be the best solution i can achieve that?(do i have to get an extension for this done?)

Should i proceed like that or you advice me to try and upgrade directly from 1.5.5.1 to 2.1.0.1? What should i pay attention to if upgrading directly?
