Error 503 when loading page without www

Hi,
when I try to load http://www.somename.something then it is working OK.
When I do the same without www I'm getting 503 error. Page is loaded, but not completely and when I try to do something (for example add item to cart) I'm getting javascript "Undefined Error".
The fix was simple I have updated .htaccess file to add www when it is missing. But anyway this bevarior looks strange to me.
I have done some testing. On localhost in administration I set name of shop from http://www.somename.something just to somename.something and the error is the same, just oposite - error with www and OK without www.
Is this normal or not? OpenCart version is 2.1.0.1
