In the default installation of open cart2 it has the "Refine your search" at the top of the page. I would like to move that to the left column and add a option for size, color, price, brand, etc etc. How do i go about doing this? I'm new to open cart and my google search returned nothing useful except an extension called "FixFilter". I thought that was what i was looking for but it wasn't. However, after i understood what it did i found it would be useful after i got the refinement thing to work. I know it's possible but i dont know how.
OpenCart 2 does not have a "refine search" functionality by default. If you're running a custom theme, it might -- if that's the case, you'd need to move its module from the "Content Top" position to the "Column Left" position. You should ask your theme designer if you don't know how to do that.
Otherwise, if you want an extension that can filter search results based on options/attributes, I have an Ultimate Filters Module extension that can do that, as well as filter on price, category, manufacturer, OpenCart filters, rating, and stock status. It works from any category, manufacturer, or search page, and is compatible with Smart Search.

Do you mean reloading the results as soon as a choice is selected? If so, there's not an option for that in the extension, but I can give you an edit that will do that. Just e-mail me at the address in the extension files if you want that edit.
In general, though, I don't really recommend auto-loading results. There are a couple of good reasons:
(1) It adds more requests to your server, which results in a higher server load.
(2) It only lets customers filter by a single choice at a time, which takes longer for customers to actually get the results that they want. If you have a slow server, this can be particularly frustrating for the customer.
(3) It comes from the idea of starting from a broad product base, and slowly narrowing that down to the right products. This is less efficient than starting from the narrowed results first, and letting the customer choose to broaden that if they don't find what they need. They often can find the result they wanted in the first filter, rather than successively filtering multiple times.
