Can't upload product pics / Can't turn on SSL in Admin

v2.1.0.1 - Now, in addition to not being able to turn on SSL in Admin, I am getting a syntax error when I try to upload a .jpg of another comic:

Can someone please tell me what the problem is, and how to fix it? I've spent 4 days now trying to get SSL working.
