I want to do a food ordering system -(please see attachment)
--Customer selects items from menu.
--This order list is emailed to the restaurant / copy to customer.
--It is an order by email site. ie, payment is not involved online but during pickup / delivery.
Kindly let me know how to proceed with this / what amount of customisation is required in this case.

Searched the thread for quite some time - but couldnt find a similar thread.
Maybe... change "add to cart" to "add to menu" and have during only for payment "cash on delivery"
And some other texts changed as well, like "shopping cart" to "my menu".

Like Artcore said if you add your menu items as products and then put them into the categories you wish and then go into the backend and disable all the payment methods apart from Cash on delivery you will get your desired result also disable the shipping options.
and as for the menu type your better off looking at some templates on here or theme forest you might just fine what your looking for:

The product row with the add-to-menu button at the end is also like the standard list display.
I agree that you just find a theme suitable to your kind of business. Search for 'cuisine', 'restaurant', 'food' themes.
