Server host is moving from PHP5.2 to 5.3-4-5 (take your pick).
When we change to 5.3, the admin/log in page goes to 'server error' messages. Main site still works fine (store), just admin/log in page does not.
Though I know the time has come to upgrade 1.5.5.1 to a newer version, is there any quick fix to allow the admin page/log in to work with PHP5.3? Would love to find a quick workaround before doing a full upgrade.
System/database shows mmsql.php, mysql.php, mysqli.php as per other posts, but nothing seems to alter this reaction from the server. I have not attempted editing other .php files in my system.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
.....
I went back into the server CGI settings and can move 5.2 to 5.3 to create this, but I made a mistake and noticed the lengthy 'edit this' section of the host info. I have not yet edited php.ini and it appears there are quite a few edits required.
Guess I will need to dig into that next then try again. 5.2 operating just fine, but host is removing soon.
Thanks.

enable opencart error logging and see if a more clear error is displayed.
also check if there is a .htaccess in your admin folder, and disable that, if you have a php.ini in admin folder disable taht as well by renaming it.

Thank you Victor.
I disabled php.ini in the Admin folder, and was able to make the change to 5.3. Can log into admin, site is functioning.
However, when I try to do a backup from the System/Backup-Restore command in Admin page, it faults to a memory issue.
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 17 bytes)...
Assuming I need to write some php.ini code....but not really sure what/where. Any suggestions appreciated. Using PHP 5.2 it backs up everything no problem.
Thanks!

Not 100% fixed, but under PHP5.3 I am able to keep php.ini active, and when doing a backup from admin/system, I select only 'orders' for one backup, then everything else for the other, and it works ok.
Prefer the old way, but memory issues must be the problem. Still working with server/host to see if they can bump it, but no luck yet. Just an FYI for anyone else with PHP issues.
