Personalised Letter Counter

Hi All

I will be having personalised products and would like to limit the amount of letters that can be added to a part of a product..ie, A line of personalised text only allowing 15 characters. It would be nice if anyone knows of a character countdown that goes lets say..from 15 - 0 when someone starts typing. I hope that makes sense?
