i some of my items require an additional handling charge cos of there size is there any way of doing this

If you want a handling fee based on weight or volume, you could use Weight & Volume-Based Fee/Discount. Otherwise, if you want something more powerful that can associate fees with any product or category, you could use Category & Product-Based Fee/Discount.

have download the extension and have uploaded it however i cant find it in my admin area to set it up

This is just a small bug with setting up the appropriate address in some OpenCart versions. If I haven't responded to your e-mail, I should be within the next day or two.
