Is it possible to add packaging weight to the total weight so that appropiate weight class/cost is chosen?

For example:

Weight <0.5kg: packaging 50gr
Weight <1kg: packaging 100gr
Weight <2kg: packaging 300gr
Weight <10kg: packaging 500gr

I'm not sure how you're calculating your shipping costs, but my shipping extensions (like Weight & Volume-Based Shipping) can adjust the weight before calculations occur. So you could set up different packaging weights for the different weight brackets, so your charges happen accordingly.

If you're using a live rate service like UPS or Fedex, you could use Hidden Shipping Adjustments instead. However, it only can do a single weight adjustment (not different adjustments based on the base weight).

Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any further questions.

Thanks for your reply.

The content in this shop is wool and yarn products. Since they are sold by the gramme, I need to add a little weight for packaging to get the correct weight class.

For example. a customer buys 100gr of wool. The limit for the postal service is 50gr, 100gr, 250gr. 500gr, 1000gr etc. So, in reality I need to charge shipping for "up to 250gr".

Perhaps it is easiest to adjust the rates/weight classes for weight based shipping module?

Yes, probably. You'd need to make sure all your brackets are set up appropriately to include the additional packaging weight that you want.

If you find you can't do this in the default Weight Based Shipping, you can take a look at mine (which includes the Adjust rules I mentioned).
