I have tried using

width: 100% ! important;
margin-left: 0px ! important;
margin-right; 0px ! important;
}
but it still has a margin either side, if I set width to smaller everything shrinks!

Glad to hear that you figured out the problempeadar wrote:This site is being constructed on local machine (Xampp). I realise now that the container is what is causing the problem so I decided to insert html directly into the php of the home.tpl file so I can create the class before the container. Allowing my div to extend full width of the screen.
