Extension 1.5.x Compatibility with 2.x

Hi,

I am brand new to OpenCart. I am evaluating it for a client's use. So far, I like what I see.

I will need some extensions and the extensions I see are mostly 1.5.x compatible (at least the ones I have been looking at). Will those work with 2.x?

The majority v.1.5.6.x Mod's will probably have to be updated to work on v.2.x , the 'more' complicated ones in most cases...

Not even the majority -- ALL 1.5.x-compatible extensions will need to be updated to be compatible with 2.0.x. There are too many changes for them to work unless they've been specifically updated.

I still stay with my (updated!) XP too, because it does, what I need it for, very well, and rather familiar.
And all I'll ever need, already exists. But I'm used drive to used Cars as well, I only get rid of them, if they break.

Seriously, though, the point is valid. I was looking through the addons and most of them did not say 2.x (or at least so it seemed to me). Eventually, they will all be upgraded and then my issues go away.

Actually, I do have one more question. When an extension is listed as version 2.0 or 2.0.1.0, would it work with 2.0.1.1?

Possibly, but there's no guarantee. Some things were changed between 2.0.0 and 2.0.1, so those could stop an extension from working. You should ask the developer to be sure.
