Redirect to cart as soon as item is added?

v. 1.5.6.4

I would like to be able to view the cart as soon as an item is added to it, rather than the pop-up window appearing in the header to indicate an item is added.

ie. When "ADD TO CART" is clicked, the page redirects to the shopping cart page (/checkout/cart)

I'm unsure if this is something I need to change in my theme/template itself, an extension I need to add or simply some code I can change? The posts that I found on this topic are dated 2012 and older, so hoping to get some updated info.
