Banner for different categories

As the title says I would like to have a different banner for each category, EG Computers to show all computer related items, its sub, games to show only games Mice, to show only mice etc; Is this possible ? i cannot figure it out ! I have read a few things about layout override but cannot figure it out ):

Hi,
First you go to admin > Systems > Design > Layouts > Create new layout for each category you want to display banner differrently and choose a banner for that category.
After that go to admin > Catalog > Categories > Edit category > Set Layout Override to a layout you have created.
