i am looking to sort products in admin by default
so they are listed the same as they appear on website frontend
and category by category,
by sort order is all i need

You can do this with the sort number.

It's not quickly changable and it's not user friendly, but let's say you want everything in order by alphabet. Then you would just type into the sort number field the first few words of the name of the product, or use different words to mention the categories with the names, etc.

So the sort number field is more useful than what it appears.

Oh, actually, it might not work in the Admin though........

Nevermind, a custom script needs to be made.

yeh all my products already have a sort number, as i just migrated them, but i have been used to having them in the same order in admin, but sort order in admin is not possible, i did just get a free mod to filter products by category or manufacturer which is good enough
