Hi, could someone tell me how to change the size of the image for my store please... I'm not very good at this (yet!) so please give explanations step-by-step! Thanks!

Can you be more specific?

Do you want to remove an image?
Do you want to change the size of an image?
Do you want to put an image somewhere else?
Do you want an image to do something else?

Do you have image editing software on your computer? If not, try this.

You should create images to the size you need them to be, or else your images will either take too long too load from being too large or become very badly blurred and distorted from being too small when you need them to be bigger. So always use image editing software to create exact size images.

Also...
1. Always make a new named file for images you resize, never over write the original file.
2. Always create different size images from the original, never from another resized image.
3. You can only resize images to be smaller, never larger, else you'll destroy the image.
4. Always save as a (.png) file for web sites, so the images stay sharp and detailed.

Hi and thank you for your advice.... I was saving the images as either GIF or JPEG! Will switch to PNG to see the difference.

In specific what I want to do is make the logo/image for the sites homepage to be a size that is easy to read... but when I upload it, it's either too big or blurred [which I now understand is because it's too small]. I'll try recreating another series of images from the original to see which works best... though this way does seem long winded... can you suggest a size/sizes that work well??!

Another user advised me to go to >>Admin - System - Settings - Image<< ... but that may take me a month to figure out at this rate.... I think that's for the pros!

Thanks once again!

Well, computer monitors are now made in wide screen, and have been for about the last 7 years, and when doing image sizes, image sizes are always measured in pixels. So the length of pixels on a wide screen computer monitor are about 1200 pixels long, and about 750 pixels high. So those are very rough estimates, but that will give you a rough idea of your computer screen in pixels.

Creating different sizes and then uploading them and trying them one by one is more or less done by trial and error, but it's always worth the few extra minutes to get the best quality images that load extremely quick.

Example:

Image.png (orignal)

Image_600x600.png (resized)

Add the size dimensions into resized images names, so you can quickly identify which ones are what sizes.

Also, when you do multiple images for a banner rotation, they all must be the exact same size, so keep that in mind also.

They were referring to controlling the sizes of the set image sizes in the shop. The online shop has set sizes for certain types of images, and will re-adjust certain image sizes. For example: your images for your products will have thumbnails pre-set to a certain size made from the original images. So you won't have to worry about making thumbnails, you'll only have to put in the size you want them to be. There is also a pre-set size for images on item pages, and the original images for items are only set to be seen by clicking on the image, but the pre-set size can also be set to the size you want those to be. However, the logo for your shop and any images you use as banner images, those will be the size you upload them as.

To change pre-set sizes for images such as the thumb nail images and the item images before they are clicked on to see the original images, those sizes need to be set in your Admin Panel, not your cpanel.

To get to your Admin panel go to

Code: Select all

youronlineshop.com/admin
Just type /admin after your web site address and then log in. Once you are logged in, you'll see a menu to your left.

Go to

System > Settings

Then you'll see a page with your website address for your online shop. To the right of that will be a blue edit button. Click that blue edit button and it will take you into a set of different tabs. Click on the tab that says "Image", and you'll see where you can change all the pre-set image sizes in your online shop.
