Choosing the right theme for 2.0? Developers?

So, this is NOT a design question as that's all subjective.

As I start to work on a new site using OC 2.0 I wanted to get some input from extension developers who seem to always moan about how this "template was poorly coded" or that "template is stupid" (yes, a very well known oc mod developer used that very phrase).

Hopefully others will read the input from this thread when choosing their future template.

So..

Is there anything to avoid?

I have NO idea what bootstrap whatever is. I'm assuming Bootstrap 3 is what we should look for?

Are there some examples of themes that are coded properly in terms of being able to possibly play nicely with mods?

themes from themeburn always seems to be heavily modified and not work with many many many extensions - eg shoppica, pavillion etc.
