I need to take away the registration links and when a customer wants an account, I have to set it up for them, or allow them to make an account but I have to confirm it before they can log in and view prices.

In admin go to Sales -> Customers -> Customer Groups
Edit the Default group
Place a tick in the Approve New Customers checkbox.
In admin go to System -> Settings - Edit your store
Click on the Option tab
Under Account section, place a tick in the 'Login Display Prices' box
