Can't add text to contact.php

I love OC and it's been awhile since I used it last. I just installed OC 1.5.6.4 through Simple Scripts and I'm wanting to add text to the information pages as per http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?t=62820

but I can't change the gray pencil to green in order to make the additions. I can change the permissions from 644 to 755, but the pencil remains gray not allowing me in to make changes.

How do I make the necessary changes to the contact.php or information.php.? Thanks

What pencil? You dont need to change file permissions. Edit them with notepad++ and to get to them connect to your store via ftp using a ftp client like Filezilla.

Thanks bunches. It's been awhile since I used OC and the new version (1.5.6.4) has me stumped with some things. I'm slowly figuring it out. Appreciate the help, You guys are still terrific and OC still rocks in my book.
