Hi, I want to make a change to how my products are linked. I sell wine so one particular type might be in 5 or 6 different categories. Now I have installed a mod that attaches the canonical tag to each page but on my Google webmasters tools it is still showing a couple of products as being duplicated.

I have been looking at how the high ranked pages have been dealing with this and if I take http://www.majestic.co.uk as an example. There wines are the same as mine, they are in a number of different categories and they use the canonical tag on each one. The difference is each wine even when in a different category always points back to the same end page. Where as on my Opencart site its always a different end page depending on what category you are in.

Two questions, can this be changed and are there any extensions or even code changes that can be done to make it work like this?

All you need is the canonical reference tag set to a static location for each product. Assuming you have a mod that is handling this properly, just wait about a month or two for Google to fully catch up.

ok but I am getting contradicting information on this subject see my post here http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/threa ... gs.330659/

I have had the following SEO extension, OPENCART SEO PACK v2.5 installed for months now but I don't seem to be gaining any traction. Now I am no expert when it comes to SEO by a long shot so I look to the high ranked sites and how they do it, and as I pointed out they all point back to the same end page. www.majestic.co.uk and Tesco wine do this that I have seen. Also I have seen other SEO extensions for opencart that do this, see http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... n_id=13208 and check out the Demo store.

I don't know what is the right thing to do and that's all I want to do.
